Help raise readers by holding a
FAMILY EVENT!
Celebrate reading and get parents actively involved in their child’s literacy. Invite family and
friends to an event. Attendance and sales will increase, while family and friends help kids
choose books and build their home libraries together. Try some of these great ideas:
Ring Toss
Include carnival-like games at your
Family Event, like this ring toss! For
every $5 that a shopper spends at
the Fair, they win a turn at ring toss.
Lunch Together
Plan your event at lunch time where students and their
special guests can spend quality time together over lunch.
Make this attractive sign to guide families to the event.

Pirate Flag Art Display
Use student-made decorations to decorate your
Fair and ask families to view the artworks. You
could turn it into an art contest, awarding the top
flags a special prize.
Family Event tips!
Consider scheduling events before, during and/or after school
so all family members have the chance to attend.
Combine your Family Event with an already scheduled event,
such as parent teacher days, open house, school festival.
Event Host an event just for grandparents!
Consider hosting a Pirate Island Tea Party with
tea, cookies, and shopping at the Fair.
Use social media to help spread the word about your
Book Fair and Family Events to the school community.
